Terms & Conditions

About these Terms

These Terms and Conditions apply to the use of the Ashbourne Raptors Basketball Club website, online forms, membership communications, events, training sessions, matches and other club activities. By using the website, registering with the club, attending club activities, or submitting information to the club, you agree to comply with these Terms.

About the Club

Ashbourne Raptors Basketball Club is a voluntary basketball club operated for the benefit of its members, players, coaches, volunteers, parents or guardians and the wider community. The club is not a commercial fitness provider and relies on volunteers to organise and deliver club activities.

Membership and Registration

Membership is subject to acceptance by the club and may require completion of registration forms, payment of applicable fees, acceptance of club policies and compliance with Basketball Ireland requirements and applicable league requirements. For junior members, a parent or guardian must complete registration and provide consent for participation.

Fees, Payments and Refunds

Membership fees, training fees, event fees or competition fees may be set by the club committee from time to time. Fees help to cover costs such as hall rental, insurance, equipment, league entry, referee costs and the administration and development of the club. Refunds are considered at the discretion of the club committee, taking account of commitments already made by the club and the circumstances of the request.

Player, Parent and Volunteer Conduct

All players, parents, guardians, coaches, volunteers and spectators are expected to behave respectfully, safely and fairly at all times. This includes respecting officials, opponents, coaches, teammates, volunteers and facilities. The club may take appropriate action where behaviour is unsafe, abusive, discriminatory, bullying, disruptive, or contrary to club values or applicable codes of conduct.

Safeguarding and Child Protection

The welfare of children and young people is paramount. The club expects all members, parents, guardians, coaches and volunteers to comply with club safeguarding policies, Basketball Ireland requirements, Sport Ireland guidance and applicable Irish child safeguarding legislation. Any safeguarding concern should be reported promptly to the club’s appointed safeguarding contact or Designated Liaison Person, and urgent concerns should be reported to the appropriate statutory authorities.

Health, Safety and Participation Risk

Basketball is a physical sport and participation involves inherent risks, including injury. Players and parents or guardians are responsible for ensuring that relevant medical information is provided to the club and updated when necessary. Members should not participate where they are unfit to do so or are unregistered with Basketball Ireland, and should follow reasonable instructions from coaches, officials and venue staff.

Website Content and Acceptable Use

The club aims to keep website information accurate and up to date, but cannot guarantee that all information is complete, current or error-free. Website users must not misuse the website, attempt unauthorised access, upload harmful material, or use club contact channels for abusive, misleading, unlawful or spam communications.

Photography, Video and Social Media

The club may use photographs, videos or social media posts to promote basketball, celebrate achievements and communicate club activity. For junior members, parental or guardian consent should be obtained where required. The club will aim to respect privacy, safeguarding requirements and any reasonable objection to the use of images.

Privacy and Data Protection

The club may collect and use personal information for membership administration, training and competition management, safeguarding, communications, insurance, emergency contact purposes, legal compliance and the running of club activities. Personal data are handled in accordance with applicable Irish and EU data protection law, including the General Data Protection Regulation.

Links to Third-Party Websites

The website may contain links to third-party websites, platforms, payment providers, leagues, governing bodies or social media pages. The club is not responsible for the content, availability, privacy practices or terms of use of third-party websites.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the club and its volunteers will not be liable for loss, damage or injury arising from the use of the website or participation in club activities, except where liability cannot lawfully be excluded. Nothing in these Terms is intended to limit any rights or liabilities that cannot legally be limited under Irish law.

Changes to these Terms

The club may update these Terms from time to time. Updated Terms may be published on the club website and will apply from the date of publication unless otherwise stated.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ireland. Any dispute arising in connection with these Terms or the use of the club website should, where possible, first be raised with the club committee so that it can be addressed informally and fairly.
