Our U15 squad is at an important and exciting stage in the Ashbourne Raptors development pathway. Like the U13s, this team will compete in league fixtures throughout the 2026/27 season with an increased focus on advanced technical skills, game intelligence, and physical conditioning appropriate for this stage of a young athlete’s development.
At U15 level, training sessions move beyond core fundamentals into more sophisticated aspects of the game. Players work on advanced shooting mechanics, complex offensive sets, man-to-man and zone defensive systems, transition play, and in-game decision-making under pressure. Our coaches place significant emphasis on basketball IQ at this level teaching players not just how to execute skills, but when and why to use them within the flow of a real game.
This age group also sees a noticeable increase in physical demands. Players are encouraged to develop greater strength, speed, and stamina alongside their technical ability, and our coaching staff incorporate conditioning elements into training to help players cope with the increased intensity of competitive league basketball. This holistic approach ensures players are developing not just as basketball players, but as well-rounded young athletes.
Team culture is a major focus for our U15s. At this age, players are old enough to take on genuine leadership roles within the squad, and we actively encourage this whether it’s senior players mentoring newer teammates, taking responsibility for warm-ups, or leading by example in effort and attitude. This squad often becomes a tight-knit group, built on shared commitment to training, match days, and supporting one another both on and off the court.
The U15 league season provides a full and challenging fixture calendar, giving players regular opportunities to test themselves against other clubs and continue their competitive development. For many players, this is the stage where they begin seriously considering their long-term involvement in the sport, and our coaches work closely with each individual to help them reach their full potential whatever that may look like for them.
Please note that due to limited roster spots, not all players are guaranteed a place in league competition. The club retains full discretion to call up or drop players from the team based on performance, tactical needs, and squad requirements throughout the season. Players can expect invitations to the league team on a rolling basis from September until the end of December. Squad selection is an ongoing process, and inclusion in one match or period does not guarantee continued selection. We encourage all players to maintain their commitment to training and development, as this directly influences selection decisions.
We are now recruiting new players for the U15 squad ahead of the 2026/27 season. Whether you’re an experienced player looking for a new club or a talented newcomer eager to test yourself at a competitive level, we would love to hear from you. As with all our age groups, places are limited and demand is high, so please don’t hesitate to contact us as soon as possible to secure your child’s place in the squad.
