The U13s represent an exciting step up in the Ashbourne Raptors pathway, as this squad will be competing in league fixtures throughout the 2026/27 season. Having progressed beyond the introductory academy stage, players in this age group are ready to take their game to the next level, applying and sharpening the fundamental skills learned in earlier years within a genuinely competitive, team-based environment.
Training for the U13s steps up in both intensity and structure. Coaches focus on developing more advanced ball-handling, shooting technique, defensive positioning, and offensive strategy, while continuing to reinforce the fundamentals that underpin good basketball. Players are introduced to game strategy and team play at a deeper level understanding positions, reading the court, working set plays, and learning how to communicate effectively with teammates during live game situations.
This is a crucial developmental age for young athletes, both physically and mentally. Our coaching staff work hard to strike the right balance between competitive preparation and continued skill development, ensuring players are challenged appropriately without losing sight of enjoyment and personal growth. Please note that due to limited roster spots, not all players are guaranteed a place in league competition. The club retains full discretion to call up or drop players from the team based on performance, tactical needs, and squad requirements throughout the season. Players can expect invitations to the league team on a rolling basis from September until the end of December. Squad selection is an ongoing process, and inclusion in one match or period does not guarantee continued selection. We encourage all players to maintain their commitment to training and development, as this directly influences selection decisions.
